Overview
The 14th Illinois Infantry (Reorganized) (Three Years’ Service) was an infantry regiment from Illinois that served in the Union Army during the later stages of the American Civil War. This unit was organized as a reconstituted regiment, distinct from the original 14th Illinois Infantry, and served primarily in the Western theater. The regiment was mustered out in September 1865, following the conclusion of hostilities.

Organization & Service
The 14th Illinois Infantry (Reorganized) was formed after the original regiment’s term expired and was composed of veterans and recruits. The regiment was commanded by Colonel Cyrus Hall, with Lieutenant Colonel Malcomb H. Copeland and Major Carlos C. Cox serving as principal field officers.
Following the surrender of Confederate General Johnston in April 1865, the reorganized 14th Illinois Infantry marched to Washington, D.C., where it participated in the Grand Review of the Armies on May 24, 1865, as part of Sherman’s army. After the review, the regiment traveled by rail and river to Louisville, Kentucky, then by river to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. From there, the regiment marched to Fort Kearny, Nebraska, and subsequently returned to Fort Leavenworth. The regiment was mustered out of service at Fort Leavenworth on September 16, 1865, and arrived in Springfield, Illinois, on September 22, where it received final payment and discharge. The aggregate number of men who belonged to this organization was 1,980, with 480 mustered out at Fort Leavenworth.
