Overview
The 193rd Pennsylvania Infantry (100 Days’ Service) was an infantry regiment organized in Pennsylvania for Union service during the American Civil War. Mustered in at Camp Howe, Pittsburgh, on July 19, 1864, the regiment served a short-term enlistment of 100 days. The unit was primarily composed of men from Lawrence, Warren, and Allegheny counties. The 193rd Pennsylvania operated in the Middle Department, focusing on railroad security and provost duties rather than active campaigning.
Organization & Service
The 193rd Pennsylvania Infantry (100 Days’ Service) was organized at Camp Howe, Pittsburgh, and mustered into United States service on July 19, 1864. Company E was recruited in Lawrence County, part of Company I in Warren County, and the remainder of the companies in Allegheny County. Shortly after organization, the regiment moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where it was assigned to Nagle’s Brigade.
During its term, the regiment was tasked with guarding the Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore Railroad and performing provost guard duty in and around Wilmington, Delaware. These duties were critical to maintaining Union lines of communication and transportation in the region. The regiment was mustered out at Pittsburgh on November 9, 1864. Before discharge, Captain McMunn of Company A facilitated the reenlistment of a number of men, who were then transferred to other regiments serving at the front according to their preferences.
