Organization & Service

The 192nd Pennsylvania Infantry (100 Days’ Service) was organized at Camp Cadwalader, Philadelphia, with fourteen companies mustered into Federal service on July 7, 1864. Colonel William B. Thomas commanded the regiment, with Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin L. Taylor and Majors C. W. McClintock and Henry J. Snyder as field officers. On July 23, 1864, the regiment departed Pennsylvania for Baltimore, Maryland. By August 1, it was assigned to garrison duty at Fort McHenry, where it received training in heavy artillery operations.

In mid-August, the regiment was transferred to Johnson’s Island, Lake Erie, but remained only briefly before being ordered to Gallipolis, Ohio. There, the regiment was tasked with guarding and forwarding supplies for Union armies. On September 30, 1864, Companies M, A, B, F, D, L, and G, under Major McClintock, were detached to Weston, West Virginia, serving under General Kelley until the end of their enlistment. Upon expiration of their 100-day term, both battalions returned to Philadelphia and were mustered out on November 11, 1864.
