Organization & Service

The 191st Ohio Infantry (One Year Service) was organized at large in Ohio in January and February 1865. Upon completion of organization, the regiment departed Columbus, Ohio, under orders to proceed to Winchester, Virginia, to report to Major General Winfield S. Under General Brooke’s command, the 191st Ohio was assigned to the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, Army of the Shenandoah.

The regiment’s service consisted primarily of garrison duty in the Shenandoah Valley. It marched as far south as Winchester, Virginia, and remained stationed in the region until August 27, 1865.
