The 153rd Ohio Infantry (One Hundred Days’ Service) was an infantry regiment from Ohio that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Organized at Camp Dennison on May 10, 1864, the regiment was composed primarily of men from the 41st Regiment, Ohio National Guard (Clermont County), and part of the 35th Regiment, Ohio National Guard (Clarke County). The unit was mustered in for a service term of 100 days and was assigned to duty in the Eastern Theater.

Organization & Service

The 153rd Ohio Infantry (One Hundred Days’ Service) was organized at Camp Dennison, Ohio, on May 10, 1864. Upon organization, the regiment was promptly dispatched to Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia. Throughout May and June 1864, the unit was primarily engaged in guard duty at Harper’s Ferry and along the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, a critical supply and communication line for Union forces.

In late June 1864, the regiment received orders to join Major General Benjamin Butler’s forces at Bermuda Hundred, Virginia, where it was held in reserve and subject to further orders. On July 3, 1864, a detachment of the regiment was engaged with Confederate forces at Hammack’s Mills, North River, West Virginia, resulting in several casualties among officers and enlisted men. The regiment continued its service until it was mustered out on September 9, 1864.
