Overview

The 150th Ohio Infantry (One Hundred Days’ Service) was an infantry regiment from Ohio that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Organized at Cleveland on May 5, 1864, the regiment was composed primarily of men from the Ohio National Guard, including the 29th Regiment from Cuyahoga County, one company from the 30th Battalion (Cuyahoga County), and one company from the 37th Regiment (Lorain County). The unit was mustered in for a service term of 100 days and was assigned to the defense of Washington, D.C.

Organization & Service

The 150th Ohio Infantry (One Hundred Days’ Service) was organized at Cleveland, Ohio, on May 5, 1864. Upon completion of organization, the regiment promptly moved to Washington, D.C. Upon arrival, it was assigned to garrison duty in several of the forts forming the defensive perimeter around the capital. These included Forts Lincoln, Saratoga, Thayer, Bunker Hill, Slocum, Totten, and Stevens. The regiment’s primary responsibility was to man these fortifications and provide security for the city during a period of increased threat from Confederate forces.

During its service, the 150th Ohio Infantry participated in the defense of Washington during the attack by elements of General Jubal Early’s Confederate corps on July 10 and 11, 1864. The regiment remained stationed at the forts throughout its term and was mustered out of service on August 23, 1864.
