Overview
The 137th Ohio Infantry (100 Days’ Service) was an infantry regiment organized in Ohio for Federal service during the American Civil War. Mustered in at Camp Chase on May 10, 1864, the regiment was composed primarily of citizens from Cincinnati and served as part of the Ohio National Guard. Organization & Service
The 137th Ohio Infantry (100 Days’ Service) was organized at Camp Chase, Ohio, on May 10, 1864, under the command of Colonel Leonard A. Harris. The regiment was formed from the 7th Ohio National Guard, consisting of men from Cincinnati, and was mustered into Federal service for a period of 100 days.
On May 12, 1864, the regiment was ordered to Washington, D.C., but upon arrival in Baltimore, Maryland, it was retained there and assigned to garrison duty. The 137th Ohio Infantry was stationed at Fort McHenry, with detachments posted at Fort Federal Hill, Fort Marshall, Fort Carroll, and various headquarters throughout Baltimore. The regiment performed guard and garrison duties, protecting key military installations and infrastructure in the city. On August 1, 1864, the regiment was concentrated at Fort Marshall, where it remained until August 14. The unit was then transported to Camp Dennison, Ohio, and mustered out of service on August 19, 1864, upon the expiration of its term.
