130th Ohio Infantry ​in the American Civil War

Overview

The 130th Ohio Infantry (One Hundred Days’ Service) was an infantry regiment from Ohio that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Organized in May 1864, the regiment was composed primarily of men from Lucas and Fulton counties, drawn from the 1st Regiment Ohio National Guard and the 75th Battalion Ohio National Guard. The unit was mustered in for a service term of 100 days and primarily performed guard and fatigue duties in the Eastern Theater.

Organization & Service

The 130th Ohio Infantry (One Hundred Days’ Service) was organized at Johnson’s Island, Ohio, from May 13 to 31, 1864. The regiment assembled at Toledo and reported to Brigadier General Hill at Sandusky for consolidation and muster-in. Its initial assignment was to guard Confederate prisoners at Johnson’s Island.

On June 4, 1864, the regiment traveled by rail to Washington, D.C., remaining there for three days before embarking on the transport George Weems. The 130th reported to General Benjamin Butler at Bermuda Hundred, Virginia, and was subsequently ordered to Point of Rocks. The regiment’s duties included drilling, constructing rifle-pits, and picketing the lines. On June 21, the unit marched to Deep Bottom, Virginia, where it remained until August 11. The regiment was mustered out at Toledo, Ohio, on September 22, 1864, upon the expiration of its 100-day term of service.
