Overview
The 119th Ohio Infantry (Infantry) was an incomplete regiment organized in Ohio for service in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Intended as an infantry regiment, it was never fully organized and did not see active field service as a distinct unit. The men recruited for the 119th Ohio Infantry were ultimately transferred to the 124th Ohio Infantry.
This regiment was part of Ohio’s efforts to raise additional infantry forces for the Union cause, but due to insufficient numbers or other organizational challenges, it was consolidated before mustering into active service.
Organization & Service
Recruitment for the 119th Ohio Infantry began in Ohio, but the regiment failed to complete its organization. According to the records compiled in “The Union Army” (Federal Publishing Company, 1908), the men who had enlisted for the 119th were transferred to the 124th Ohio Infantry. No record exists of the 119th Ohio Infantry being mustered into service as a complete regiment, nor did it participate in any campaigns or battles as a separate entity.
As a result, the 119th Ohio Infantry did not have an independent service record, and its history is closely tied to the 124th Ohio Infantry, which absorbed its recruits.
