Organization & Service
The 11th Ohio Battalion Infantry was formed in June 1864, consolidating two companies from the original 11th Ohio Infantry whose enlistments had not yet expired, together with reenlisted veterans. The battalion was placed under the command of Captain D. Clinton Stubbs, who was promoted to lieutenant-colonel but was not formally mustered at that rank. The unit was assigned to Baird’s Division of the 14th Army Corps, Army of the Cumberland.
The battalion joined Sherman’s forces during the Atlanta Campaign, participating in the campaign’s movements and engagements. It continued with Sherman’s army through the March to the Sea and the Carolinas Campaign, remaining active through the surrender of Confederate forces in the spring of 1865. The battalion was mustered out of service on June 11, 1865.
