Overview

The 113th New York Infantry (Three Years’ Service) was an infantry regiment organized in New York during the American Civil War. Mustered into United States service in 1862, the regiment was initially formed as an infantry unit for the Union Army. This unit is distinct from the 7th New York Heavy Artillery (Three Years’ Service), which it became after conversion in December 1862.

Organization & Service

Shortly after its organization, the regiment was ordered to Washington, D.C., where it was assigned to the defenses of the capital. The regiment performed garrison and guard duty in the Washington defenses during the late summer and fall of 1862.

On December 19, 1862, the 113th New York Infantry was converted to heavy artillery and redesignated as the 7th New York Heavy Artillery. After this date, the regiment’s subsequent service and record continued under its new designation as an artillery unit.
