The 17th New York Cavalry was never fully organized. Only two companies were recruited before the regiment’s authority was revoked in September 1863. The enlisted men and officers of these companies were transferred to the 1st New York Veteran Cavalry. As a result, no complete roster for the 17th New York Cavalry exists in the official records.
