Overview
The 110th Indiana Infantry (Minute Men) was an infantry regiment organized for emergency service by the State of Indiana during the American Civil War. The formation of the 110th Indiana Infantry was a direct response to the incursion of Confederate cavalry under General John Hunt Morgan, who crossed the Ohio River into Indiana on July 8, 1863. The state government issued a call for volunteers, and within 48 hours, over 65,000 men offered their services. Regiments numbered 102 through 114, including the 110th, were organized from these volunteers. Despite the rapid mobilization, the 110th Indiana Infantry was not called into the field, as the immediate threat subsided before deployment was necessary. The regiment was mustered out at Indianapolis on July 15, 1863, after only a brief period of service.
