Overview
The 190th New York Infantry (Infantry) was a Union regiment organized in New York City during the final months of the American Civil War. It was formed as an infantry unit for Federal service, with recruitment beginning in February 1865. The regiment was never fully organized, and only Company A and part of Company B were mustered in before the war ended.
This regiment served on the Union side and was intended for service in the Eastern Theater. However, due to the timing of its organization and the rapid conclusion of the war, it did not see active field service.
Organization & Service
The 190th New York Infantry (Infantry) began organizing in New York City in February 1865. Recruitment efforts resulted in the completion of Company A, under the command of Captain Christian S. Peterson, and a partial Company B. The regiment did not reach full regimental strength before the end of hostilities.
With the surrender of Confederate forces in April 1865 and the cessation of major combat operations, the incomplete regiment was mustered out of service. Company A and the partial Company B were officially discharged on May 3 and 4, 1865. The regiment was not attached to any brigade, division, or corps, and did not participate in any campaigns or movements.
