Field & Staff
- Captain George T. Cochran – Original commander; mustered in December 1861; succeeded by Estep.
- Captain George Estep – Promoted from lieutenant; commanded battery after April 1863; detached as acting assistant ordnance officer during Atlanta Campaign.
- Lieutenant Winsor – Commanded battery at Chattanooga during Estep’s detachment; later detailed to command captured guns at Resaca.
- Lieutenant Stokes – Commanded battery at Chattanooga during Winsor’s detachment; appointed captain of consolidated 7th Battery after January 1865.

Consolidations or Transfers
After the muster-out of the 8th Indiana Light Battery in January 1865, remaining veterans and recruits were consolidated with the 7th Indiana Light Battery. Lieutenant Stokes was appointed captain of the reorganized 7th Battery.
