Overview

The 151st Indiana Infantry (One Year’s Service) was an infantry regiment organized in Indiana for Federal service during the final months of the American Civil War. Mustered in at Indianapolis in March 1865, the regiment served in the Western Theater, primarily performing garrison and guard duties in Tennessee. The unit was raised in response to a late-war call for one-year regiments and was composed mainly of recruits from Indiana’s 9th Congressional District.

This regiment served the Union and was attached to the Department of the Cumberland. Its period of active service coincided with the closing months of the conflict and the immediate postwar period.
