Overview
The 95th Indiana Infantry (Infantry) was an infantry regiment authorized for Union service during the American Civil War. It was intended to be organized in Indiana, with recruitment focused in the 5th Congressional district and headquarters established at Richmond. The regiment was to serve in the Western Theater as part of the Union Army. However, the regiment was never fully organized or mustered into service.
This unit is distinct from other Indiana infantry regiments that were successfully organized and served in the field.
Organization & Service
The 95th Indiana Infantry was authorized under the call of July 1862, with the goal of raising a full regiment from the 5th Congressional district. Recruitment efforts were centered at Richmond, Indiana. Despite the authorization and initial attempts to gather volunteers, it proved impossible to secure the required quota of men. As a result, the regiment was never completed, and no companies were mustered into Federal service. The 95th Indiana Infantry did not participate in any campaigns or field operations, and no official muster-in or muster-out dates are recorded for this unit.
