Overview
The 94th Indiana Infantry (Union Army, Infantry) was authorized for recruitment in Indiana during the summer of 1862, following the call for additional troops issued in July of that year. The regiment was intended to be organized at Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and was to draw its men from the 4th Congressional District. Despite official authorization and efforts to form the unit, the regiment was never successfully organized or mustered into Federal service.
This regiment remained on paper only and did not participate in any campaigns or battles. Its history is notable for illustrating the challenges faced by some states and districts in meeting recruitment quotas during the later years of the Civil War.
