Terrell, Adjutant General, Indiana, 1867 Regimental History Independent Indiana Cavalry Company. — Capt., Charles L. Lamb. This company was organized in Crawford county in July, 1863, and accepted for special service for one year. The horses furnished by the men were received into the service and the company was mustered in Aug. 13. It was engaged during the fall and winter in assisting the provost-marshal of the district in arresting deserters, in enforcing the draft, and in guarding the river border against invasions from the enemy's cavalry and guerrillas. Authority was given in Jan., 1864, for the reeenlistment in the three years service of such of the company as desired, and under this authority a large proportion of the men reeenlisted for three years, entering the 13th cavalry.
