Withers, Jones Mitchell, born in Wisconsin, appointed from Alabama
cadet United States Military Academy, July 1, 1831; graduated
forty-fourth in a class of fifty-six.
Brevet second lieutenant, First Dragoons, July 1, 1835.
Resigned December 5, 1835.
Lieutenant colonel, infantry, March 3, 1847; Thirteenth Infantry,
April 9, 1847.
Colonel, Ninth Infantry, September 13, 1847.
