Civil War Soldiers - Wade
Wade, Melancthon S.,
brigadier-general, U.S. Army, was born in the state of Ohio in 1802.
He took a deep interest in military affairs from early youth, rose to
a brigadier-generalship in the Ohio militia about 1840, and continued
in command till 1849. He offered his services to the government in
1861, was commissioned a brigadier-general of volunteers by President
Lincoln, and was for some time in command of Camp Dennison until he
resigned his commission March 18, 1862. Gen. Wade died Aug. 11, 1868.
