Died in New York city, June 1, 1884.

Commands.
Commanding Department No. 1, headquarters at New Orleans, from May 31, 1861, to October 7, 1861. September 8, 1862, commanding first division, Army of the District of Mississippi, composed of the brigades of Rust, Villepigne and Bowen. April 7, 1865, assigned a command in the State of South Carolina.

Lovell, Mansfield, born in District of Columbia, appointed from District of Columbia ; graduated ninth in a class of forty-five.
Second lieutenant, Fourth Artillery, July 1, 1842.
First lieutenant, February 16, 1847.
Brevet captain, September 13, 1847, for gallant and meritorious conduct in the battle of Chapultepec, Mexico.
Resigned December 18, 1854.
