Virginia. Commanding Third Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, composed
of the divisions of Anderson, Heth and Pender, July 19, 1863, to May
8, 1864.
Hill, Ambrose Powell, born in Virginia, appointed from Virginia
cadet United States Military Academy, July 1, 1842; graduated
fifteenth in a class of thirty-eight.
Brevet second lieutenant, First Artillery, July 1, 1847.

Virginia and North Carolina. Division composed of the brigades of
Brigadier Generals Rains, Rodes, Garland and G. B. Anderson, Jackson's
Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, 1862 to 1863; also brigades of
Generals Doles, Iveson, Rodes and Colquitt in Jackson's Corps, Army of
Northern Virginia; also brigades of Brigadier Generals Deas, Manigault,
Sharp and Brantly, Army of Tennessee. In October, 1863, commanding
corps in Army of Tennessee, composed of the divisions of Cleburne and
Breckinridge. At battle of Bentonville, N. C, March 19, 1865, in
command of S. D. Lee's Corps.
Hill, Daniel Harvey, born in South Carolina, appointed from South
Carolina cadet United States Military Academy, July 1, 1838; graduated
twenty-eighth in a class of fifty-six.
Brevet second lieutenant, First Artillery, July 1, 1842; transferred
to Third Artillery, October 20, 1843.
Second lieutenant, Fourth Artillery, October 13, 1845.
First lieutenant, March 3, 1847.
Brevet captain, August 20, 1847, for gallant and meritorious conduct
in the battles of Contreras and Churubusco, Mexico, and
Major, September 13, 1847, for gallant and meritorious conduct in the
storming of Chapultepec, Mexico.
