4th Ohio Independent Cavalry Battalion Soldier Roster - Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War of the Rebellion, 1861-1866, Volume 11, by Ohio Roster Commission (Joseph B. Foraker, Governor, James S. Robinson, Sec'y of State and H. A. Axline, Adjutant-General), 1886 Regimental History Fourth Independent Cavalry Battalion. — Maj., Joseph T. Wheeler. This battalion, composed of five companies, was organized at Cincinnati, from Aug. 3 to Sept. 21, 1863, to serve for six months. It was mustered out by companies at different dates from Feb. 15 to March 14, 1864, by reason of expiration of term of service. Many of the members reenlisted in the 13th cavalry, which was then organizing at Camp Chase. Part of this battalion was in service during the Morgan raid, being subsequently sent to eastern Kentucky, where, although it participated in no regular battles, it did good service in protecting the citizens from the raids of the guerrillas with which that region was infested.
