Simmonds, Daniel W. Glassie ; First Lieuts., Leonard Magness, Arthur Erenburgh, James W. Conine, Robert C. Steen, George Hattersley, James M. Kerr ; Second Lieuts., Hamilton B. White, Robert Johnston, Frederick A. Dame. This battery, formerly Co. E, 1st Ky. infantry, and known also as the 1st independent Ky., or Simmonds' battery, was organized on May 10, 1861, at Camp Clay, Pendleton, Ohio, to serve for three months, but was reorganized and mustered into service June 3, 1861, at Camp Clay, Pendleton, to serve for three years. It is impossible, from the records on file in the office of the adjutant-general of Ohio, to give any of the movements or operations of this battery. It was mustered out on July 10, 1865, at Louisville, Ky., in accordance with orders from the war department. (See "1st Independent, or Simmonds' Battery," in the Kentucky department of this work.)
