Regimental History
One Hundred and Ninety-sixth Infantry. — Col., Robert P. Kennedy; Lieut.-Col., Eben S. Coe; Maj., Thomas C. Thoburn. This regiment was organized at Camp Chase, March 25, 1865, to serve for one year. It immediately started for Virginia, where it was assigned to the Ohio brigade at Winchester. Here it remained until July, when it was ordered to Baltimore and assigned to duty in the fortifications around the city, a portion of it being sent to Fort Delaware. The regiment was mustered out on Sept. 11, 1865, in accordance with orders from the war department.Footnotes:
