1st Ohio Veteran Engineers
|First Veteran Engineers. — Maj., Patrick O'Connell.
This regiment, composed of members of the pioneer brigade, Department of
the Cumberland, was organized as per special orders, No. 231, war
department, adjutant-general's office, Washington, July 8, 1864. A new
company was organized in March, 1865, and assigned as Co. L. The members
whose terms of service would have expired previous to Oct. 1, 1865, were
mustered out at different dates in June, 1865, and the remaining members
retained in service until Sept. 26, 1865, when they were mustered out.
