Civil War Soldiers - Hampton

HAMPTON, WADE, South Carolina.
Colonel, Hampton's South Carolina Legion, July 12, 1861.
Brigadier general, P. A. C. S., May 23, 1862.
Major general, P. A. C. S., August 3, 1863.
Lieutenant general, P. A. C. S., February 14, 1865.

Commands.
Brigade composed of Hampton's South Carolina Legion, the Fourteenth and Nineteenth Georgia, and Fifteenth North Carolina Regiments Infantry. In July 28, 1862, assigned to Cavalry Brigade ; brigade composed of First and Second Regiments South Carolina Cavalry, First Regiment North Carolina Cavalry, Jeff. Davis Legion, Cobb's Georgia Legion, and Phillips' Georgia Legion, Army of Northern Virginia. Division composed of the cavalry brigades of Young, Butler, Rosser and Gordon, Army of Northern Virginia. Commanding Corps of Cavalry, Army Northern Virginia. Commanding cavalry of General J. E. Johnston's army and Butler's division of cavalry, from February 16, 1865, during march of General Sherman through the Carolinas. January 31, 1865, commanding Cavalry Corps, Army of Northern Virginia.
